The La Chute River is a short, fast-moving river, near the Vermont–New York border. It is now almost wholly contained within the municipality of Ticonderoga, New York, connecting the northern end and outlet of the 32-mile (51 km) long Lake George and the southern end of the 107-mile (172 km) long Lake Champlain through many falls and rapids. This is the lower part of the river, downstream from the beautiful falls in Ticonderoga's Bicentennial Park. After the dramatic drop at the falls, the river slows down to make its way to Lake Champlain via Fort Ticonderoga. This portion of the La Chute River is an easy paddle with lots of scenery! The Falls on the LaChute River are made up of several falls that have formed on the upper section of the La Chute River, the largest being ~15 feet in height. To get there: From the traffic circle at Ticonderoga (junction of Montcalm Street & Route 9N/Wicker Street), drive east on Montcalm Street for 0.4 mile.

The primary advocate for the preservation and protection of whitewater rivers throughout the United States and connects the interests of human-powered recreational river users with ecological and science-based data to achieve goals within our mission. Thanks to PRIDE of Ticonderoga, a local civic organization, a three-mile trail along the LaChute River has been created and can easily be hiked, a fact unknown to most visitors to Lake George’s south basins, and to many of its residents as well, for that matter. The idea to recreate the 18th century French sawmill that was built in 1756 along the north bank of the La Chute River in Ticonderoga to cut timbers needed for the construction of Fort Carillon, is a concept first discussed in the early 1980’s (Submitted on October 20, 2018, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.) 2.
